This charming five-piece matryoshka set is painted in rich red with intricate rural scenes decorating each doll - a farmer ploughing his field with a horse, a country cottage, wildflowers and figures from traditional Russian village life. The detailed miniature paintings on each doll's body give the set a storybook quality, with each figure revealing a new glimpse of the Russian countryside.
Hand-painted with fine detail throughout, this is a lovely set for anyone drawn to the storytelling tradition of Russian folk art - as much a series of tiny paintings as it is a nesting doll set.
This matryoshka is a five nested set.
